Here is my opinion on the best free forum software.

1) Mybb
2) phpbb
3) Vanilla
4) Yetanotherforum

I use mybb on another of my forums, since I am not willing to upgrade it to Vbulletin at the moment, and it works great?

Although the lack of add-ons and customization is really what separates it from vbulletin.

vBulletin is the best by far, but costs. then theres phpBB and Invision, out of the two phpBB is easier to customize and setup.
